Join us in congratulating our founder and president, Carmen Allen, on winning the 2023 ATHENA International Award! The competitive award recognizes women leaders who have demonstrated significant achievements in business, community service and the professional advancement of women.
Currently in its 37th year, ATHENA International seek nominees who exemplify a number of attributes reflective of their contribution to leadership. These include developing relationships, giving back, fierce advocacy, and collaboration.
The Greater Rochester Chamber, which helped decide this year's winner, awarded Carmen for exemplifying these attributes and more. They stated Carmen "is unwavering in BTS’ core values of treating everyone with dignity, respect and compassion and never turning anyone away." They further celebrated Carmen for leading "Beyond the Sanctuary from a small food pantry into a multi-program organization that addresses the challenges of poverty and helps community members move from assistance to become self-sustaining."
